Patience
The kids I've been working with have taught me a great deal about patience and how to further explore a topic. One of the beautiful things about therapy are there are so many different ways to learn more about a person and allow them to express what they are feeling. Some new techniques I've learned and utilized are sand tray therapy, art therapy, and the incorporation of therapy games.
Conveying unconditional positive regard and utilizing soler skills is crucial during this time.

Flexibility
Flexibility is two part. The first, is meeting the needs of the client. This can be adjusting times, days, or locations if necessary. Working with the theory that best fits the clients needs. Then implementing the clients belief, ideas, and values into treatment planning.
The second part is about learning more to understand diverse perspectives. This can be through research, posing questions, asking supervisors and colleague's for their thoughts and ideas, and being open minded to it all. Reflection on the various perspectives and visions heard and incorporating it into their work with clients is valuable. Understanding that multiple perspectives can be correct and engaging in those conversations is a beautiful thing.
Genuineness
I'm not perfect and will never pretend to be. I won't ever pretend to know everything about a subject or everything about a person. Being honest and conveying humility and understanding are a huge part of being genuine. I will ask my clients to tell me more about a certain subject or event and encourage transparency from both ends to display genuineness. I will also be truthful in letting my clients know when I'm not an expert in something and wish to refer them to someone who is.
